Why does it matter if you work a holiday.
Double pay. OR Time and 1/2. OR an empty place (depending on where you work)
its come to my attention that others have deemed me to be pitied based
on the fact that i am stuck working on a holiday.
If they would only know that i much rather prefer working these times or days
only because i know how it felt when my father was able to be home for holidays,
or i knew that Christmas would be wonderful because our family was together.
I by all means don't have to work, seniority could grant me a vacation here and there, but
its nice to watch the look on a young mother's face when you say.
"Yes, I will work for you on Thanksgiving so you can eat with your kids."
or "Please, spend Christmas morning opening gifts, I'll cover your shift."
I think that more single, childless adults should be so caring and considerate.
I mean YOU BETTER BELIEVE that when i have kids my ass won't be clocking in.
Ha.
No, really. I have put in my time.
Well, another thing is this... what am i really going to do on a 4th of July holiday?
Sit in my back yard chugging beers with the neighbors watching bursts of fire color the air?
I would much rather get a tad more on my paycheck next week and buy something Prada.
I mean, my family has always celebrated the 4th of July. ALWAYS. I've seen my share of
Fireworks.... and good ones too.. BIG BERTHA OMG. talk about scared to blow off your fucking fingers! Ahh i still remember running away from that squad car....
Well, I can see that my Independence Day has just begun so i will leave you with this.
You have to love a nation that celebrates its Independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. ~Erma Bombeck
(can i just say that I choose to not overeat this fourth of July... wish me luck.)
